After treatment your skin will require healing time to properly recover for the optimum results to be achieved. Your skin will take approximately 28 days to fully recover, progressing through 4 stages of healing, and you may see and feel the following changes during this time.
Stage 1 – Hemostasis
After the skin has experienced a trauma and there is bleeding then clotting will occur, this is called coagulation and is the bodies defence mechanism. This stage will happen before you leave the treatment room.
Stage 2 – Protection
After clotting has occured the area may become slightly inflammed as white blood cells enter the area to begin their role of defence. This stage is to eliminate any signs of bacteria or unwanted debris. It is normal for the skin to be slightly red and a little uncomfortable during this stage which can last up to 48 hours.
Stage 3 – Regeneration
Fibroblasts cells release collagen and elastin which fills the treated area. New epithelial cells are produced which creates a smooth, red, shiny area of new skin that offers protection to the regenerating cells below. This stage can last up to 28 days.
Stage 4 – Maturation
Now that the skin has recovered and new skin cells have been produced. Collagen and elastin fibres will re-organise themselves to provide a solid structure that offers protection and resilience to the treated area. This process can take up to 12 months to complete.
