Pregnancy Policy
This policy is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of clients who are at any stage of pregnancy, who are breastfeeding, or who are trying to conceive (including clients undergoing IVF), while they visit our salons.
Massage
We do not offer massage* to any client in their first trimester. Thereafter, for the remainder of pregnancy, we ask clients to check with their GP and/or midwife that there is no reason they should not have a massage treatment safely adapted for pregnancy, whether or not the pregnancy is high-risk or complex.
*Massage includes Swedish back massage, full body massage, and hot stone massage.
We do not massage the abdomen, the pressure points on either side of the ankles, or the webbed area between the thumb and index finger, at any stage of pregnancy.
Products
We use pregnancy and breastfeeding safe products, and limit the use of aromatherapy oils.
Treatments we do not offer during pregnancy or while breastfeeding:
- Skin Needling
- Skin Peels
- Electrolysis for Hair Removal — new clients only
- IPL for Hair Removal and Skin Rejuvenation
- CACI Non-Surgical procedures
- Radio Frequency Facial
- Advanced Electrolysis for Skin Lesion Removal
Patch testing: a new patch test is required for Lash Tinting, Brow Tinting, and Lash Lifting if a client advises they are pregnant.
Trying to conceive or undergoing IVF? Fertility treatment can cause similar hormonal changes to early pregnancy, so we apply the same care and consideration to these treatments even before pregnancy is confirmed. Please let your therapist know at consultation.
Oncology Policy
This policy has been created to support our clients through their cancer journey. We aim to provide treatments that help support your wellbeing while maintaining your health and safety.
This applies whether you are currently living with cancer, or have received a diagnosis, had treatment, and are now in remission or cancer-free. In most cases, it isn’t the diagnosis itself that means we take extra care — it’s the treatment given to treat, remove, or manage the cancer, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy, or surgery.
Treatments we do not offer during active cancer treatment:
- CACI Non-Surgical procedures
- Skin Peels
- Skin Needling
- Advanced Electrolysis for Skin Lesion Removal
- Radio Frequency Facial
- Electrolysis Hair Removal
- Waxing
Active treatment means treatment given to treat cancer, such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, or immunotherapy. This includes any gaps between sessions or cycles — for example, a break between chemotherapy cycles doesn’t count as having finished treatment. We ask clients to wait 3 weeks from the very end of their full course of active treatment before these treatments are safe to enjoy.
Massage and other treatments
We’re able to offer massage and most other treatments during active treatment, with care taken to adapt them to you — including pressure, product choice, comfort, and skin sensitivity. Being able to adapt a treatment doesn’t always mean it’s right for every client on every visit, so this is something we’ll always talk through with you at your appointment.
If you’ve had surgery
Surgery as part of cancer treatment — such as tumour removal, mastectomy, lumpectomy, reconstructive surgery, or lymph node removal — needs continued care and consideration for up to 12 months afterwards, depending on the extent and location of the surgery. Please let your therapist know about any surgery you’ve had so we can plan your treatment safely.
Patch testing
If you’ve had a cancer diagnosis and medical treatment, we’ll ask to patch test you again for tinting and lash lifting (lash tint, brow tint, lash lift), even if you’ve been patch tested with us before.
Your consultation
At every appointment, we’ll ask about your treatment history and current status, so we can make sure your treatment plan is right for you. This isn’t a one-off conversation — we’ll check in with you at every visit, since things can change between appointments. If we’re ever unsure, we’ll always take the time to check rather than guess, and we’re happy to talk through any questions or concerns you have.
Concurrent Treatment Policy
To ensure the highest standard of care and safety, we are unable to provide electrolysis or any other advanced treatment to clients who are currently receiving the same or a similar treatment from another practitioner or clinic, regardless of the area being treated. Different practitioners often use different techniques, equipment and protocols, and treating the same client concurrently makes it very difficult to properly monitor skin healing, judge appropriate settings, or establish responsibility should any complication arise.
This is consistent with good practice more broadly, where care is coordinated through a single practitioner rather than delivered by multiple providers without a shared plan. If you are currently receiving electrolysis or another advanced treatment elsewhere, we ask that you complete that course of treatment before booking with us.
If you are unsure whether this applies to you, please discuss this with your practitioner before your appointment.
*Advanced treatment refers to any skin or hair removal treatment that penetrates, alters or has a direct physiological effect on the skin, including but not limited to Electrolysis, Laser and IPL, Skin Peels, Skin Needling, Radio Frequency and other energy-based treatments.
Treatment Courses
Courses are valid for 1 year from the date of purchase. Expired sessions cannot be extended or refunded. Treatments cannot be exchanged for a different treatment and cannot be transferred to another client. Course bookings are subject to our cancellation policy. Any course treatment cancelled within a 24 hour period will be deducted from the courses sessions. Treatments can be redeemed at any Zest Skin Spa location.
Contraindications
Our Therapists, during the consultation process, will endeavour to establish if you have any contraindications that means your treatment cannot be performed or needs to be modified. However, it is the responsibility of the client to disclose their full, current and past, medical history as prompted in the consultation form and client disclaimer. Clients must continue to advise their Therapist if there are any changes to their medical history, any changes to their product use or medication.
Consultations
Consultations are vital to ensure a successful treatment programme and skincare regime. This is why we offer a consulting service free in all of our Spas. Our skin professionals are trained to ask questions which help to establish your skin type, current routine, effects of your lifestyle and desired results.
Informed consent ensures that you have all the necessary information about potential risks, benefits, and alternatives before undergoing any treatment.
The following treatments require a consultation:
IPL Hair Removal
IPL Skin Rejuvenation
Advanced Electrolysis for Lesion Removal
Electrolysis for Hair Removal
Skin Peels
Skin Needling
Patch Testing
Patch testing is a legal requirement to ensure the health and safety of our clients. The following treatments require a patch test at least 24 hours prior to treatment:
IPL Hair Removal
IPL Skin Rejuvenation
Lash/Brow Tinting
Lash Lifting
Skin Peels
Patch Tests are required:
- Prior to the first treatment
- If there are any changes to medical history
- If 12 months has passed since the last patch test or treatment
Fitzpatrick Scale
We cannot carry out patch testing or skin treatments on clients with a skin type 5 and 6 on the Fitzpatrick Scale in respect of IPL treatments, Skin Peels, Skin Needling or Microdermabrasion. This is due to the unknown adverse impact on the skins pigmentation and the high risk of post inflammatory hyper pigmentation.
Cosmetic Injections
Clients must inform their Therapist if they have had recent cosmetic injections. Clients must wait at least 14 days after cosmetic injections before having any Zest Skin Spa treatment in the same area. Clients who have regular Botox injections should avoid having CACI Non-Surgical Treatments in the same area, as this treatment will counteract the effects of the Botox injection.
Wound Healing
After treatment your skin will require healing time to properly recover for the optimum results to be achieved. Your skin will take approximately 28 days to fully recover, progressing through 4 stages of healing, and you may see and feel the following changes during this time.
Stage 1 – Hemostasis
After the skin has experienced a trauma and there is bleeding then clotting will occur, this is called coagulation and is the bodies defence mechanism. This stage will happen before you leave the treatment room.
Stage 2 – Protection
After clotting has occured the area may become slightly inflammed as white blood cells enter the area to begin their role of defence. This stage is to eliminate any signs of bacteria or unwanted debris. It is normal for the skin to be slightly red and a little uncomfortable during this stage which can last up to 48 hours.
Stage 3 – Regeneration
Fibroblasts cells release collagen and elastin which fills the treated area. New epithelial cells are produced which creates a smooth, red, shiny area of new skin that offers protection to the regenerating cells below. This stage can last up to 28 days.
Stage 4 – Maturation
Now that the skin has recovered and new skin cells have been produced. Collagen and elastin fibres will re-organise themselves to provide a solid structure that offers protection and resilience to the treated area. This process can take up to 12 months to complete.
Before and After Care
Please attend your appointment wearing minimal, or preferably no, make up; our Therapists will cleanse the area to be treated but, depending on the products you use, may not be able to remove all traces of mascara etc. as this will cut into the treatment time allocated for the full appointment.
It is recommended that all clients wear a broad spectrum SPF and avoid direct sunlight after any skin, hair or facial procedure. We also recommend that clients avoid any heat or chemicals on their skin following any Zest Skin Spa procedure. This includes strenuous exercise, saunas, steam rooms, hot tubs, swimming, tanning products etc.
We also advise clients to stop the use of certain skincare products ahead of their visit. This includes but not limited to Retinol, AHA’s, BHA’s. If you are unsure how your lifestyle may affect your treatment please ask your Therapist for advice.
