We are beyond excited that our new Laser skin system has finally arrived. I have been searching the market for months to find the best system for our clients. A system that offers fantastic results and is supported by clinical trials, with proven results spanning over 15 years. Complete prices and treatment information will be appearing on our website in the next few days but here are some common questions answered to whet your appetite!
How does the system work?
Energy from the light source (the lamp) is absorbed by pigments (melanin and haemoglobin) in the skin, hair and blood vessels. Selective filtering of the light source makes the energy absorption specific for either melanin (600 to 950 nanometres) or haemoglobin (530 to 950 nanometres). The system can therefore be used to treat unwanted hair growth, vascular and pigmented lesions.
Science alert! – As an example hairs are permanently removed using this system due to the generation of heat from light in the melanin which travels to the hair follicle and destroys it. This system has been chosen as the light is set to destroy the hair follicle by applying the correct amount of energy in just 1 millisecond. Thereby minimising heat build up and potential burning of the skin.
What can be treated?
We can successfully treat the following conditions with this system:
~ Unwanted Hair
~ Lines and wrinkles
~ Open Pores
~ Broken Veins
~ Skin redness
How is the treatment carried out?
An application of cooling gel is smoothed over the area to be treated to allow for an even transmission of the light. The hand piece or lamp is then place over the skin and the light flashes. The lamp is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated.
Is the treatment painful?
No, this treatment is not painful but depending on the severity of the vascular lesion or density of the hair growth then there can be a level of discomfort. More light energy is absorbed into denser areas therefore more heat can be felt. This, however, is very short lived and has been described as similar to an elastic band being snapped against the skin.
Are there any risks or side effects?
The visible light used is completely safe and no special precautions are needed apart from wearing protective glasses for the brightness. If your skin becomes red very quickly in the sun then it is likely the same reaction will occur with this treatment. Any redness should settle after a few hours with most clients reporting no side effects at all.
I have had treatment previously elsewhere which was unsuccessful why is this different?
It is really unfortunate that due to the increase in popularity of Laser and IPL treatments there have been many reported incidents of bad practice, poor knowledge and inadequate ‘cheap’ equipment. We pride our business on providing only the most effective treatments which are supported by clinical studies for safety and efficacy. Extensive knowledge of the anatomy of skin and hair and an understanding of light absorption in the skin is vital for a successful treatment, therefore only our most experienced Skin Therapists are individually trained and insured in this procedure to ensure safe and sensible practice. We will only treat clients once we have carried out a thorough consultation process and answered all questions and concerns, we do not charge for this consultation.
Available at both our Haddington Place and Haymarket Terrace locations.
